This was one of the last photo's I took with my dad. Not long after I visited him here in South-Africa, he died in a paraglider-accident.
He was a para-glider for 20 years and somewhere in the back of my mind I always had known this would happen at some point. Not because I have some weird paranormal gifts, neh ... it was just blunt risk calculation.
Anyway, he loved his red Ford and as a kind of silly souvenir I brought him a pair of car lashes which where quite a trendy gadget those days. I obliged him to wear them on his car as long as I was around. As soon as I was back on the plane he was allowed to take them of.
After a month wearing them and a month of being laughed at by the locals, my dad removed them. But during driving air friction had rubbed the plastic lashes against the paint, so the paint around ' the eyes' had become matt polished.

One of the first stories I read from you about selling the American car (Lincoln?) springs to mind, and the one of you visiting your dad and mentioning that relations were somewhat strained. This picture of you two framing the caw in this context is absolutely brilliant. Something that glued you two together.
Of course no caw is complete without lashes.
