Vemana: A great and indigenous poet in Telugu language

Vemana is a great and indigenous poet in Telugu language. His pholosophy of life reflects in his poems, like morals and ethical values of life. His poems has a special ending as “Vishwadhabhirama vinuravema” which is no way related to main theme of poem.

All his poems contain four lines. First two lines of his poem expresses materialistic reality of the situation and third line elaborates personification of the reality and a signature ending of “vishwadhabirama vinuravema” in fourth line.

His poem collection is known as Vemana Shatakam. Shatakam means century or 100 as numerically.

“Vishwadha-abhirama vinura-vema” If this sentence is separated by each word; which has been described as.. Vishwadha is his lover name, she is a prostitute, Abhirama is his best friend’s name. Vinura meaning listen, Vema is his name.

Due to dearest bond with both Vishwadha and Abirama he ended all of his poems with signature line as “vishwadhabirama vinuravema”. All put together it can be interpreted as Vishwadha, Abirama, listen Vemana.

ఆత్మాశుద్దిలేని యాచార మదియేల
భాండశుద్ధి లేని పాకమేల?
చిత్తశుద్ది లేని శివపూజ లేలరా!
విశ్వదాభిరామ వినురవేమ

Translation in English

There is no use of rituals if soul is not refined
There is no use of cooking if cooking bowl is not clean
There is no use of worship without concentration and trust
Viswadhaabhirama Vinuravema
