- Su esposa: María Teresa Rodríguez del Toro y Alayza, quien murió a causa de una fiebre amarilla.
Fue un político y militar destacado de la época pre-republicana de la Capitanía General de Venezuela, importante figura de la emancipación americana ante el imperio español así como fue el fundador de la Gran Colombia.
En su viaje por Europa logró presenciar la proclamación de Napoleón Bonaparte. En Roma (1805) juró que no iba a descansar hasta lograr liberar a su país de los españoles.
En 1819 creó lo que conocemos como República de la Gran Colombia, que incluía a Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela y Panamá).
Es bueno aprender un poco de historia, no sabia que tenia un nombre tan largo, solo lo conocía por Simón Bolívar, y tampoco sabia que logro ver la proclamación de Napoleón Bonaparte. Algo nuevo se aprende todos los dias
