My experience in a type IV hospital in Venezuela

in venezuela •  6 years ago  (edited)

Good afternoon or evening, welcome again to my blog, this time I will talk a little about my experience as an almost graduate student in a well-known hospital in my country, it is located in Anzoátegui, a mediated state of 43,300 km² that represents approximately 4.72 % of the total area of Venezuela.

Right here:

This state to pass its size, inhabits approximately 1,440,875 inhabitants, which day by day are decreasing due to various socio-political economic factors related to the country but we can talk about it in another post, this time I will speak a bit of my experience for that those who are not from Venezuela can give a small idea of how our situation is in a relatively unknown issue such as the health area, currently in the 10th semester in medicine which would be more or less the 5th year of career in another type of universities, study at the University Hospital Dr. Luis Razetti (HULR).

It receives its name in honor of a prominent doctor and Venezuelan researcher Dr. Luis Razetti. This is a type IV hospital, this was founded in 1940, and is located on a mountain and secluded because it was planned as an anti-tuberculosis hospital and is the most important and largest healthcare center in Anzoategui, so with this we can give us a idea of the amount of services available and the number of patients that reaches approximately 800 to 1000 patients daily, I will talk a little about how things are here, this hospital is our main study house, but due to the passage of the time that does not forgive, this has deteriorated a lot and clear to the massive emigration that exists in Venezuela (due to reasons that I imagine everyone should know) has greatly reduced the number of doctors present in this institution, thus considerably increasing the number of patients waiting to be treated, in this my place of study practically my second home, as all students have had experiences, surprises, joys, sadness, bia and many emotions, an unavoidable thing for any student of course, everything starts from the transport, due to deterioration and lack of maintenance, there is only one ambulance in operation at the hospital now if you want to go by ambulance and that is occupied your only option is call civil protection and they also have few units would say that at most would be 3, so most patients no matter who suffer are traveling in their own vehicle or what is more common in motorcycles, when you reach the emergency Hospital, if you have never come in, you will get your first surprise, we will sense meaning. The first thing you can hear is complaints, shouting, people running and insects. All of them are common enough to hear them, at least the first 2 are heard from outside, the following is the touch here can feel an incredible heat because there are no windows open, only the door and there is no air conditioning only in the area of irophane of the emergency and this does not work at 100% only keeps the area at about 20 or 21 ° C approximately enough to not have heat, smell this is the biggest punishment because they do not keep the rules of hygiene to the letter and the whole area is contaminated you find a nice smell that would be the combination of sweat, bacteria, blood, urine, even stool and decaying skin, quiet dear reader after 1 or 2 years you get used to it, finally we have the view here we can see all the above mentioned, the clear deterioration of the installations that paint falling, cracks, people sitting on the floor, suffering, once the flies

doing exactly that everywhere, literal everywhere, if you're surprised that includes the operating room, everything is literally contaminated, another sad thing that we can see is the clear precarious situation of the supplies and reagents in the laboratory, where to put alcohol in a wound to a patient we must ask him to buy and provide us with alcohol, cotton and gloves to be able to take care of them, but even so we lend our best face, since this situation helps us to be more altruistic, philanthropic and empathetic with our patients because we know what is really happening and the economic situation of all patients in Venezuela.

good for now with that I say goodbye, my dear reader, if you want to know more about the situation or my story leave me a comment and I will make a post dedicated to what you want to know, a like is well appreciated, see you in the next.
