She called it statis and slowly moved from single cells to amphibians to small mammals. To resurrect a complex organism from inactivity to activity brought her closer to being able to apply her science to her brother who had spent nearly 30 years in a cryogenic freeze. He drowned when she was 10 and he was three. Now, she was closer to bringing him back.
She introduced her brother as her son and kept him close to her fearing they would take her greatest triumph from her. She had worked alone, but now those who funded her research wanted her success for themselves. There was so many applications from interstellar space flight to storing soldiers for later use.
He saw her as his mother; his only memories of a woman in a pony tail dragging him behind in a wagon. She wore her hair the same way and he never suspected.
