Today I was in a weird state of mind. After looking at the eviction notice on one of my neighbors door, I felt happy.
See I was homeless and doing the couch-surfing thing a little over a year ago. Last month was the first time in a long time that I was able to fill out a lease renewal contract. Being able to sign on the line confirming that I could pay the rent on time was a huge success for me.
Not one late notice was served on me for this whole previous year. Unlike my past apartments and rentals, my history for a single year was stellar.
The past several years I moved from one place to another while trying to look after everyone else's needs.
Last year was pretty much dedicated to my son. Getting him to and from school was my daily task. He turned 18 last year so now he's pretty much trying to feel his own way around not relying on me too much.
This is a good thing. I prefer him to be self-sufficient and able. But on the other hand I don't want him to ever feel like I won't be there for him when he has a rough patch. Sometimes you have to fall and find your own way back up. Like I did.
Well, the rent was increased another $25. I can handle it. I'm not going back to couch-surfing. I'll let you know next week if my neighbors stuff hits the curb.
