Libby's Story: of you have a minute please read:)
I wanted to take a few minutes to share what happened to our Libby Loo. A couple weeks ago Libby woke up and started having seizures which increased in frequency and and quality. Eventually Libby started loosing her urinary functions during seizures. It was downright scary and so sad to watch. She stopped eating her food. She stopped using the bathroom. She lost coordination and motor function. Her long time vet suggested that she most likely had a brain tumor and that she should be put down as soon as possible, which meant that we would need to consult a home touring vet who would come to our home over the weekend to euthanize her. We were destroyed. We prepared ourselves for the worst part of any pet owner's journey. We began saying goodbye. We gave time for those who knew and loved Libby to come and say goodbye to her.
Hours later, Bill and I answered the door of the euthanizing vet. The time had come. At this point, after opening the door for Dr Mike, I just started choking. I couldn't even talk. I could see how bad Dr. Mike felt for us. A complete stranger to us knew that he walked into what seemed like a hopeless situation....the worst part of his job.
Upon arrival of Libby's crate, Dr Mike tells us the impossible! There is still hope left. He thought that she could be helped. He gave us hope when we thought we had none left. He said it was extremely rare that she had a brain tumor. He thought instead that she had late onset epilepsy which occurs with old age the same as having a loose wire in the brain. He put her on an antibiotic, seizure meds, red blood cell vitamins, and an anti nausea med to stop her vomiting.
He wouldn't take any money from us on this day, even though he traveled all the way to our house after he worked the whole day. He invited us to come into his vet practice on Sunday so he could treat her which included giving her subcutaneous fluid treatment. He still didn't charge us. He told us that he would accept payment when he saw her begin to turn around...He gave us his cell phone number and was texting me for constant updates on Libby and asking me to send him pictures of what she was looking like day to day.
We literally could not believe what was happening. Libby began to slowly but surely get better and better and better. She just went in for a post care check up today to which she is completely better. She is no longer anemic, no longer needing antibiotics, or nausea meds. She will always need seizure meds, but Dr. Mike thinks she's got a good 3-4 years left in her.
We love Dr. Mike like family. He saved us and our Libby. If you need an outstanding vet please consider seeing him at AAA Pet Services on Park Road. He is one of a kind! Thank you Dr. Mike ❤
