The past months have flown by so it’s time for another Viacoin development update! In the previous update we stated: “The coming months will be all about delivering our promises and releasing everything we have announced!”. As usual the Viacoin development team keeps their promises so we have started releasing the things we have been working on.
Latest announcements:
Vialectrum 3.0.5.
On 24/01/2018 we released our latest Vialectrum version. Vialectrum 3.0.5 comes with a lot of upgrades like Bech32 address support and better fee estimation. We have also added VialectrumX Tor nodes. If you open Vialectrum 3.0.5., while having your Tor browser open, you can choose to use Tor proxy to add a layer of anonymity. We are currently experiencing some issues with the VialectrumX servers but our development team is working on fixing it. More information about Vialectrum 3.0.5. can be found HERE.

Atomic swaps
As we previously announced, Viacoin already supported atomic swaps. We have updated our atomic swap contract to use SHA256 secret hashes (instead of RIPEMD160) as it is more secure and has wider compatibility with altcoins. This resulted in Viacoin getting integrated the Decred atomic swap repo. Visit our atomic swap Github repository for more information by clicking HERE.
Binance
There has been a lot of speculation over the past few months. It was very hard for us to keep quiet but thankfully Binance finally announced the good news! Viacoin has been listed on Binance and can now be traded against BTC, ETH and BNB. Binance is a great addition to the list of exchanges where Viacoin is already listed, since it is one of the few exchanges that still allows new users to sign up.

With the addition of Binance Viacoin is now listed on:
Binance
Bittrex
Poloniex
Upbit
LiteBit
Coinroom
Yobit
BarterDEX
More announcements about exchange listings will follow soon!
Team expansion
During the past months we have added 4 new developers to the Viacoin development team: Reorder, Frank Marrone, Chainfailure and CR-MN.
Reorder is an extremely talented developer with over 30 years of experience in the field of programming. He has been working on Viad, the alternative Viacoin implementation in Golang, and the Viacoin Core C++ Auxpow implementation.
Frank is currently working on ViacoinJ, a library for working with the Viacoin protocol. It can maintain a wallet, send/receive transactions without needing a local copy of Viacoin Core and has many other advanced features.
Chainfailure is currently working on Viacoin Copay, a secure and easy-to-use multisignature wallet. More information on Viacoin Copay can be found further into this article.
CR-MN has worked on the new Viacoin website and will continue to focus on Viacoin web development.
We will continue to expand the Viacoin team, both the development and the marketing side!
2018 Roadmap
We have recently released our 2018 roadmap. Some of the terms are pretty technical so we made this article to explain them. The Viacoin development team is working hard to ensure that all points are finished before the end of the year (just like the 2017 roadmap). The best part is that we are working on a few things that are not listed on the roadmap. You will find one of these things if you scroll down!
Via-insight blockchain explorer
We have released our new Via-insight blockchain explorer: https://explorer.viacoin.org. Launching the explorer was the final step towards finishing our Trezor integration.
Coin development:
Viacoin Core 0.15.1
The Viacoin development team has been working incredibly hard on Viacoin Core 0.15.1, shown in the latest pull request. They are currently busy testing it. Viacoin Core 0.15.1 is a massive update and has proven to be a lot of work but we are still on track for a Q1 release! We will release an article shortly to explain all of its features like Schnorr signatures and M.A.S.T.
Viacoin Copay
We are currently beta-testing Viacoin Copay. Viacoin Copay securely stores multiple, distinct viacoin wallets, allowing both business and privacy-conscious users to keep funds carefully separated. Manage personal, business, and testnet wallets easily, all without leaving the app. Viacoin Copay uses hierarchical-deterministic (HD) wallets, allowing for secure in-app wallet generation and backup. Viacoin Copay is currently scheduled to be released on Windows, OSX, Linux, ChromeOS, Android, iOS and Windows phones.
Viad (Viacoin Golang)
Our development team has finished writing an alternative implementation of Viacoin in Golang. It properly downloads, validates, and serves the block chain using the exact rules (including consensus bugs) for block acceptance as Viacoin Core. Viad allows the Viacoin development team to start working on user-friendly Viacoin Lightning wallets.
Upcoming releases:
New website
A new website has been under development for quite some time now. Unfortunately the development took longer than we initially expected. The information on our old website was outdated so we have decided to launch a temporary website until the new website is ready to launch. We hope to launch it before the end of the month! Below you will find a small preview of what the website will look like.
Trezor
Recently we released our Via-insight block explorer, which was one of the last steps towards finishing the Viacoin integration for Trezor. We are happy to share that we have completed the integration and we have created a pull request in the Trezor Github. We are currently waiting for them to review our code. We will inform the Viacoin community once we hear back from them!
Viacoin payment gateway
Our development team has started working on a Viacoin payment gateway. This gateway will allow webshops not just to accept Viacoin but also Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dash. We will release more information on the payment gateway soon!
