You will hear the term tossed around in this sport quite a bit. Especially when you are talking about smooth flying conditions at the end of the day.

The thought here involves laps rate. When there is a temp differential in the air, the warmer air will want to rise above the cooler air. During the day the sun is loading the ground with energy. Millions and Millions of btu's are going into the various surfaces. When the evening shows up, or when we experience cloud cover creating a difference in the temps, the btu energy is released upwards into the air. Because the surface can't hold onto this energy long, you will get a period of time for wonderful, smooth, lifting air to take you up, and keep you up if you do it right.

There is a great line of conversation about glass off here. http://www.paraglidingforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=73938

As a new pilot, these conditions are perfect. Smooth air, predictably in the landing zone, and lift to keep you going for more than a sled ride.

Here is a quote to help you if you plan on flying...
"If you are not flying yet and you want to fly a #paraglider...you need to start flying one"

Nice term, we call it "magic lift". I first experienced this at the Bulwer site Drakensberg South Afrika. It was magic.

YES! love it!

The UK term is also 'magic lift' :)

Glass off blue sky day. Nice term.

Its a beautiful thing.

Wow! That is awesome. I have never been paragliding but hope to some day.

It is a dream come true literally. I used to have dreams that I could fly. It was like i could step on this invisible ladder and show my friends. I remember a couple time in my dreams climbing as high as i could. I am still shaking myself every once in a while to see if I am actually doing this. LOL Thanks for watching.
BTW I have 5 kids too.
