I sometimes like to enter video contests. It's fun to try and beat the clock for a deadline that isn't self-imposed. It means that you have to get something done no matter what. But the problem is that most video contests are just a way for companies to try and get free advertising. Once in a while though there are those that allow for a little more fun and creativity. This was one of those contests. Sponsored by YouTube Star Freddie Wong (AKA FreddieW) this chapter of the contest (which was divided into three parts) was supposed to focus on the possible challenges that bad battery life in mobile gaming might present.
I submitted my video at 5:57am, the deadline was 6am... I work full time and just didn't have any other way to get it done then to push the limits of what my body and mind could endure. It's not the prettiest thing I ever made. And I almost died finishing it on time. But god damn it, I did it. I fracking did it...
I shot it on my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. I made the mistake of shooting Raw, which slowed me down and almost made me miss the deadline. The alien was a hack of a model from Daz that I brought into Zbrush and then further refined in 3ds Max. Where I rigged him using the CAT system. He was rendered in V-Ray and tracking was done using Syntheyes.
