Click here if you've never seen a book trailer before.
Here are a few ideas for making a good book trailer on a low-to-zero budget.
- Shoot on an iPhone or find someone with a DSLR.
- Stay as close to characters as possible. Although with book trailers especially, a lot of people prefer not to see the faces entirely. It leaves more to the imagination.
- Keep locations minimal and controllable.
- Hire local talent.
- Have talent furnish their own wardrobe if possible.
- Don't rely on stock video. It's a tool at best. That said, here's a site with some terrific resources.
- Avoid still frames. For real, it'll look spammy.
- Keep it short! 60-seconds is great. 30 or under is better.
- Share on social channels like Reddit, D Tube, and Steem It!
- Send to literary and niche blogs and show them this cool thing you did.
