I have always been a fan of short films and independent content. But for a few years it seems as if its almost been an artistic perspective to purposely mess up "good" writing or filming. Awkward cut clips, filming before the actor or actress gets into role, things like that. I didn't graduate from college but Ive taken multiple video production classes and been involved with the creation of quite a few local northern california skateboarding videos in many ways. I started to notice when involved with skateboarding videos it is especially true. Low production in some rock n roll themed videos was kind of encouraged and the trend. The thing was to get a terribly shitty 8mm camera with a dirty lense and shoot party footage in between skate clips to make it look like you were on drugs in the 80s. It seems to me that even with all the new technology coming out and high definitions becoming a reality there will be a resurgence in bad quality content. Just because it has a different feel. There is no need to compare it to the latest and greatest or the original bad quality footage it just is.
RAPPER VIPER (Almost 10k subscribers on youtube.) all of his videos like this. lol
This is my buddies rocknroll band "FALSE FREEDOM" we used to do these filming sessions in the guitarist Shaun's Dad's mechanic shop. You can see all the shop shirts on the rack in the frame. They have been playing for like 13 years I was making a documentary with a bunch of northern california bands I had about 4 years of footage from partys to shows all the footage was lost when I broke ties with my girlfriend. If I would have done it over I would have game my leg for that footage it was raw, uncut, and the real story of the northern california punk scene. Some of those times even the people that were there don't even remember including myself. Anyways we also made a couple killer short films I had completely separate one I made when I was homeless. If I would have had something like steemit it would have made the transition to being on my feet a hell of a lot smoother. I've always been okay around technology and connecting the dots to make it work. Could have taken advantage of all those wifi spots at libraries and coffee shops that for sure.
So what do you think will we regress as far as how much money is put into films? Will the mainstream start to go against itself with the realization that production value doesn't essentially mean the movie will be profitable?
Well, I really think film making is an art. And the artistic value of an art is not measured by how much money you spent producing it, IMHO.
