Moments from San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala

in video •  7 years ago  (edited)

Imagine studying Spanish for 5 weeks in this location with the outdoor classroom overlooking this lake. Also living with a local Mayan family during your stay. This is exactly what I did and it was one of my best trips ever. Here are some moments from this adventure.

Though most important moments stayed behind the camera - I made lots of new friends who made this trip awesome, learned a lot of Spanish thanks to the awesome school and its teachers, who also became my friends! I will try to vlog my next adventures but this was just a really personal experience and my sabbatical. But now the adventure awaits - Guatemala, Belize and Mexico in the next three weeks loaded with epic stuff!

Shot with my DJI Mavic, Sony a6000 SEL18-200 and GoPro 4 black.

Lovely photos and good story.

Beautiful place, but isn't this one of the biggest murder capitals in the world? Like really dangerous to visit? Aren't kidnapping real common there?

Might be unsafe in the capital, but you don't want to hang out there anyway. Places like San Pedro la Laguna and other villages around lake Atitlan are super safe. Not for a moment I felt unsafe and people walk here at night alone, even solo girls etc. Might be safer than your average big European city actually.

The rest of Guatemala is pretty dangerous indeed, I watched the news with my Guatemalan host family and the things that are going on in the capital are pretty bad. However, if you take private shuttles to commute and avoid dodgy cities you will be fine, and this country is a gem! So many things to explore

Really

Come to visit Venezuela and you will fall in love

I really want to get to Los Roques and Angel falls! I think I am already in love! 😜

Thanks so much!

I would love to movement to Guatamala. How would you figure out how to bear the cost of setting out to other latin nations? I might want to have the capacity to movement comparable nations as you are and have the capacity to manage.

@zbmaan75 would love to answer, but it is a bit hard to understand the question. Can you please rephrase / say it in a different manner?

Hola olegnator,

I would love to travel to Guatamala. How do you manage to afford traveling to other latin countries? I would like to be able to travel similar countries as you are and be able to afford.

Hola @hanamana, good question and no secret here, I am travelling on my cash savings which should be enough for the near future if I am careful, which I am. I don't need luxury and it is pretty cheap travelling here. So to give you a short answer, find a cash flow, ideally a passive one but to begin with any will do, save for your life expenses at least 6 month ahead, invest the rest based on your risk profile.

Gracias for valued advice on how to save for a desired trip.
