They're making fun of inspiration porn, but in all honesty Rikki's reaction is very similar to my own in regards to the first time I tried on a proper hearing amplifier that wasn't complete shite as a quick money grab from those with hearing loss (Seriously, fuck those cheap ass $20 mother fuckers you can get at CVS, Walmart and Walgreens, they truly suck the biggest fucking balls).
When I got the amplifiers from Britzgo, audio was much better and I was able to comprehend a hell of a lot more than I otherwise could. I'm personally looking forward to what a real high end hearing aid will do now that my insurance starting next month will provide me with coverage. Super looking forward to that.
First time I wore the good amplifiers though, I was hearing a lot of new sounds I haven't heard before and I honestly thought "Hell my hearing is perfect with these holy shit" when reality, I was mistaken in that there was still a ton of stuff I missed out on and didn't realize until having used them for a few hours that there are things my hard of hearing roommate and hearing husband could hear that I still just completely missed. And there are many times where speech is still just "Uhhh huh what did you say?" because I don't catch it.
