Using T-Mobile in Mexico & Getting A Mexican Cell Phone Plan

in video •  7 years ago

Before we left to come to Mexico, after doing some research about the best US cell carrier for Mexico, we decided the winner was easily T-Mobile. We were told that T-Mobile would terminate the agreement if we spent a lot of time in Mexico, but we knew that we should have at least three months to use their services.

For our T-Mobile service, we were paying $50 USD per line which included unlimited talk, text, and data, and it could be used anywhere in Mexico. However, data speeds would be slowed down after hitting 5GB.

We were very happy with our T-Mobile cell coverage here in Mexico, in fact, we usually had better service than at our condo in the middle of Phoenix. However, we just got a message saying that our service will be shut off in a month (a little under 5 months after crossing the border.)

In this video, we take you with us as we get a new cell phone plan in Mexico.

Thanks for sharing..

I just wanna thank both of you guys for sharing your experiences in our country with the whole world, keep up the good work as always :)

Yes, I like to add to that.
Being an American that never been to Mexico and with the desire to travel in Mexico these videos provide guidance.

Thank you, and welcome to Steemit! Did you find Steemit through our YouTube channel?

We're really glad we can showcase a lot of the great things that Mexico has to offer and to demolish a lot of people's preconceived notions about the country.

Of course I did! For now, I’m just trying to get into it lol... anyways, in the mean time I will enjoy more of your videos and again, thank you for showing to the public a different face of my country :)

Awesome! A quick tip, if you're wanting to write blog posts in Spanish, look into what it takes to get votes from the @cervantes account.

We gave that same advice to @vicmir who also signed up for Steemit after finding us on YouTube, and @vicmir has already received a couple @cervantes votes. It will help you get a nice jumpstart on Steemit.

If you're wanting to write blog posts in English, look into what it takes to get a vote from the @curie account.

I think that telcel is the best option for traveling. I like AT&T service more but telcel has better coverage. Traveling through Oaxaca I discovered that it was easier to communicate with telcel. Buena decisión!

The coverage of Telcel is what ultimately made us choose them. Thanks for reaffirming our decision :)

5 months is a pretty good run. I think I would download dingtone or another free wifi calling app and just use that in lieu of paying the inflated Mexican cell phone rates...

Thanks for the advice about a free wifi calling app. We are happy to be paying what we are though. Considering we were paying $100 USD/month and now we're paying $30.

That's a huge difference.

I am really excited about the fact that you got the sim card without much stress. The same with Nigeria. You can pratically get your SIM cards just around anywhere and get it registered, and you are good to go. Just that, I don't know of any special plans that they have. Haha

Having the guy speak a little bit of English surely helped. How is the Spanish self tutoring going with you both?

I can see your excitement at the switch and considerable low price too. That must be a huge relief I must say. It would be nice to see how they work perfectly well in a month, so you can be certain it is a good plan, and based on several recommendations from people, it should be good.

Congratulations guys. Wait, Laska doesn't need one too? Haha
