I think the internet needs a better and more accessible platform than YouTube to share videos that deserve a revenue. This one, coupled with cryptocurrencies potential, could be just the thing we need to enable a much wider community of content creators than we expect. Tipping would be the gamechanger for this kind of platform, not only ads revenue.
Since this is already filled with photos and images it's obvious that people want a more media-centered experience than just reading and writing.

You can actually already copy and paste links from video hosting websites (like youtube) and it should be able to play through a post. Not a bad idea to make Steemit a video streaming website in and of itself though!
