My very first you tube video - "A guy with a rocket on his truck."

in videos •  7 years ago

I made this video in 2009. It was my first attempt at editing a video and creating content. I didn't know anything about camera angles, color grading, rendering, and/or sound engineering and frankly, still don't. That was never what attracted me toward publishing content. I don't have a keen eye for transitions, flow, dead air, and making "tv quality" perfection.

With everyone always complaining about media manipulation of the news I just wanted to tell a different story, my story from my perspective. I wasn't thinking about going viral or honing my craft. My thoughts at the time were to inspire everyone to make the same shitty videos that I was creating. Video editing and film-making is an art that only a certain amount of folks get the "big bucks" for doing that work. However, my thinking is that anyone who wants to should be inspired to create their own content, regardless of critical acclaim. You want to capture something you care about and make it into a video, do it. Don't worry about whether or not others will like it.

I am a good interviewer, a creative thinker with a systems perspective on life. When I edit a video it takes a long time to do almost nothing whereas some people can spend the same amount of time and build a masterpiece. Those folks are awesome. Hit me up and I'll be glad to interview you and talk about your craft.

But for now, just sit back and watch Bob Motz do his thing:

Now watch (almost) the exact same driver, from someone who did their homework:

A couple lessons:

  1. Yes you can always do what you want and what you love, you just might not get paid for it.
  2. Some people should stick to live-streaming.
Bob Motz is an Ohio and Drag Racing legend. I don't personally know the guy but you can find out more about him here: "The Original Jet Truck ©"

You really touched on a couple of important production points. I get a lot of ideas from watch others video. I will see a technique and say "that was cool, how did they do that?" . I have watched 1000's of hours of B&W movies, dissecting the camera angles, depth of field and transitions. Doing your homework is correct. Then there is editing. Spending 30 minutes to get the perfect transition. The right effects. I have a long way to go, but I have made a lot of progress.

Takes 10,000 hours of honing your craft to become a master. Get to work, lol. Thank you for the resteem!!!
