For the most part I really enjoy living in Vietnam and I especially like the cold / rainy season. I get the luxury of working from home so the fact that I will get wet if I go anywhere doesn't really bother me all that much. I also really enjoy the dramatically lower temperatures that we get from November to January that is normally around the mid 70's by day, and mid 60's by night... this is of course in Fahrenheit.
There is some bad that comes with the good though and that is the fact that the interior of nearly every building starts to show signs of mold.
Here we are in mid-November and my bedroom is already showing signs of mold setting in.
I've lived in 3 different apartments since moving here several years ago and all of them have had this problem. It's a fool's errand to try to find a place that doesn't have this because I don't know anyone who doesn't end up facing this same problem.
During this time of year I normally end up with respiratory issues and since I don't smoke or vape, I think I can correctly blame it on the building.
I remember my father telling me as a child that mold is like cockroaches, if you can see it, there is many times more of it that you can't see.
So obviously this is a health risk and the only thing we can do is to keep our windows open as often as possible. Unfortunately for me, the bedroom has a window with no awning over it so if it is raining, and it frequently does this time of year, you can't have the window open because you'll just invite the rain into your room.
I use the air conditioning in my bedroom every night and I had hoped that this would sort the problem out but unfortunately it seems to have little effect on it.
I suppose we have to take the good with the bad when this starts to happen because I would prefer to deal with this inconvenience than to have it be 100 degrees year round. I don't really know how to fight this, I suppose I could get a dehumidifier, but those are expensive and loud so I reckon i'll just deal with it.
