Of course I am not offering this myself and I would imagine that the machines that I saw this in probably aren't really offering them either. I don't really know how something like this would be monitored or regulated but that is the idea behind the machines.
I don't really know how it works and I am not going to put money into this thing in order to find out. I would imagine that like most games of chance that exist at casinos that the chances of you actually winning the featured item is really really small if it exists at all.
Vietnam is a land of semi-gambling in a way that would not be allowed in the West. I don't know who is right about this and I am not trying to make some sort of judgement about this at all. I just know that I could probably throw the amount of money that it would take to actually purchase this phone into the machine and likely not win it.
They are called "Funny Box" possibly because it is really funny how much money they are able to take away from customers that think they have a 1 in a million shot of winning something that is actually worth more than the money that they have to put in the machine in order to play in the first place.
You can also win a boom box of sorts because people still use those I guess and you can get a pair of definitely genuine JBL headphones if you are really lucky as well.
It costs just 100,000 VND to play (about $4) and I don't know what the consolation prize is in the way that the can say that everyone wins but I would imagine it is something that is carefully calculated so that the owner of the machine always ends up winning. The machines wouldn't exist otherwise.
