Christian vigilance: For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 1 Thessalonians 5:2

The apostle of the Gentiles founded the Church of Thessaloniki during his second missionary journey, and despite the great difficulties, this fervent Christian community remained firm in the gift of the faith, that is why the apostle Paul dedicated two beautiful letters to these devout Christians.
And among the issues that most concerned this spiritual community was the second coming of Christ and the day of judgment, that is why the apostle Paul dedicated part of his first letter to this important spiritual topic.
And Paul as an adult Christian approached the teaching from the perspective of the Christian vigilance, that is, no one knows the day or the hour of the second arrival of the Lord Jesus, but all Christians must know first of all how to discern the times, because if darker is the night, then closer the dawn is.
And about this, Paul expressed in his epistle:
"Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ´Peace and safety,´ destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape." 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3.
And Paul then went deeper and explained the importance of the new man, of that man clothed in Christ, so that if this day comes surprisingly and mysteriously, Christians will be prepared, as children of light and knowledge, and not children of ignorance:
"But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober" 1 Thessalonians 5:4-6.
