Happy Monday Steem fam! I hope everyone had a restful and wonderful weekend? We had the most freezing weather here, and stayed indoors with blankets and loads of movies!
At work we have just received the most beautiful antique writing bureau, and I thought I had to share it with my Steem fam!
It's a 19th century Flame Mahogany Writing Bureau with a Quilted Maple Interior. How fancy does that sound!? Flame Mahogany is so called because of the pattern the grain makes - see below in my image
The inside has many little drawers and compartments for all the letters and important documents the owner (probably an Earl of Sandwich/ Hamburger )😝 😝 would have stashed, and a beautiful old green leather "desk" area.

I had never seen that pattern of wood before that is on the inside, and after much research, myself and our carpenter decided it must be American Quilted Maple. This means that this wood for the interior was imported into Europe from America or Canada, all before 1900! I found that super interesting, as the piece is a very Flemish/ continental European one, and that means they would have to imported the wood from America. I imagine this no easy task back in 1865!
In the past, I found, in another similar unit, some undeveloped negatives of photos, and some letters dated 1965, written in Swedish. In an old safe I bought previously, we found someone's collection of antique and vintage coins. So fun, and interesting too. If only these pieces could talk!
While most people would find this piece very antiquated, I know this will sell t one of our classic hoteliers, or antique fundis! What do you think? Too old and stuffy? Or incredibly beautiful and desirable? Let me know in the comments!

I love this piece of masterpiece art and it's Old grand and very beautiful for me it's antique and made of Mahogany wood it's completely a masterpiece of Art of that time the nineteenth century or maybe more earlier to this century.
I think you love to collect these amazing items as you told that you bought some more items like this and found some undeveloped roll and some old coins too.
For me it's still young looking pretty well and a masterpiece of art you should keep safe it closer to your reading room wher you can safeguard your most important books of cooking, beauty and so on.

@princessmewmew it is beautiful I would´t sell it yet unless you need the money, if you keep it at home you will always can see it and can see the value it has, but if you sell it you won´t see the antique neither the money because you will spent it quickly. Have a nice day

Hi Princessmewmew, what a stunning piece. The wood is beautiful and that top decorative piece I would assume that it was hand carved. I love all the little drawers, fascinating history. You are so lucky to have this in your possession if only for a short while. Thanks for sharing.

Antiques are works of art themselves, @princessmewmew! I always appreciate the craftsmanship embedded in them. I love history and stories behind antiques, but I'd prefer to see them in a museum than owning for myself.

Oooh I like this very much, just think of all the special trinkets you can keep in those draws. I have to confess I'm a bit of a hoarder, no matter how junky something is I have to keep it just in case I might need it in future!
Seriously though this is a lovely piece of antique furniture, and I think you will find it sells for alot more then many people will imagine - these sort of detailed and well finished pieces are very desirable - especially when in excellent condition as this one clearly is.
Congratulations on hitting your one year Steemit Milestone - it's really something to shout about - some many come and go on here but only the tenacious, brave and hard working souls stick it out through thick and thin and keep posting and commenting. And who know's where we will all be this time next year!

I love this. It reminds me of my Winthrop writing desk (named after one of my own ancestors) that is like a sort of chippendale fold down front desk sometimes used in conjuction with a seperate glassed bookcase/display case on top. I don't have that piece, but I love all the little drawers.
This is a magnificent piece. It certainly isn't antiquated to me, but I have a 300 year old house, so the older the better :)
