  • In 1987 Guitar World magazine had a major feature on Frank Zappa, including a cassette of guitar solos. This LP is that material, some of which was never released on an 'official' release until today. It was supposed to only be available in America, but Wokingham's Beyond The Download ordered a copy in. I didn't realise until this morning , and luckily it was still there at mid-day!
  • In 1991, REM released 'Automatic For The People', but decided not to tour, as they were sick of touring. They did however play two secret gigs at The Borderline, a club in London. In those pre-social media days, a secret gig was easy to arrange, especially when one of the biggest bands on the planet billed itself as 'Bingo Hand Job'. It was so secret that the nights didn't sell out. One of the gigs I would have killed to be at; if only I'd been walking down Charing Cross Road that night...
This and the Beefheart I picked up at Camberley's much loved Rock Box.
  • I have 'Trout Mask Replica' on CD, but this is billed as going back to the source tapes. Engineered by Jack White's record company. Even the cover image is sourced back to the negative.
  • My relationship with Gillan's 'Mr Universe' is worthy of a post on it's own. I have something like 6 versions of it in my collection. So this was an inessential but fun purchase.
The only thing I wanted but failed to find was a Grateful Dead live album. As for what I decided not to buy, that is a very long list indeed!
