What a classic record from 1965. Not only does it sound great on vinyl, the song "Sounds of Silence" feels like it belongs on vinyl.

Today's recordings are heavily polished and have a lot of production value. But nothing sounds like a record like this. Perhaps it's the microphones, the recording setup, mixing equipment, studio tapes, or mastering process they went through. But you definitely don't get the same mixes today.

Even the technique is different. Listen to how the drums are mainly in the left of center and the electric guitar in the right.

Hearing those differences is one of the best parts of listening to and collecting records.

I love the "sound" of these recordings. Modern production just sounds, well, modern! Haha, I used to talk a friends ear off about his songs that he was recording. His favorite bands are The Beatles and The Beach Boys and i insisted he had to record it to sound "old" like that... He seemed to not hear a word i was saying lol. Of course it's not cheap to put together the right gear or find a studio with that stuff so there ya go.

Agreed, replicating it today is not easy and takes a lot of concerted effort.
