I ask this question from time to time.. Do you prefer Vinyl Records, CDs or MP3s? I prefer vinyl myself, they sound better, they have a warmth that CDs don't have. Also, Vinyl are a greater display of artwork. CDs are more cold and crisp, too digital and are just a waste of space. Yes, they're portable compared to vinyl, but when it comes to portability, I just go with MP3s. I started collecting Vinyl Records in 2011. My first record was Bad Religion 'Recipe for Hate' (1993). I remember when I first held it in my hands, I was just in love and amazed at the 12" masterpiece work of art!
In comparison to the CD version, I got a full sized piece of artwork in my hands that felt more bold, it felt more compelling and I could see more of the artwork in greater detail. Just the overall feel of it was so much better than the CD could ever be. When it comes to the audio, playing it on my decades old turntable that was originally my GrandFather's. The sound was more alive and it felt like Bad Religion were truly playing the album live in the room with me! That's truly the overall experience that I feel when I listen to Vinyl Records. They just feel so much better!
I've been told that reel-to-reels are the king of audio, which I do have a reel-to-reel player. But It doesn't work too well, I picked it up at a local antique store for $5 last weekend and I've been trying to get it to run. Hopefully I do someday. However, to close this off. What's your favorite medium for music?
