Virat Kohli has vowed to be ‘fresh’ for the 2018 Indian Premier League after missing India’s ongoing T20 series in Sri Lanka.

Having played 94 international matches since the start of 2016, which is eight more than any other player, Kohli opted to sit out of the trip to Sri Lanka.

Speaking at a promotional event in Mumbai, Kohli said: ‘Physically, I had a few niggles and I am just getting over them.

‘The workload has started to disagree with me, so I have to be careful about how I go forward with my body, my mind, my cricket.922307368.jpg

‘Times like these are important going ahead. I am enjoying it. I do not think I am missing out on anything, because my body really needed this.

‘I have started to listen to my body. And when I am done with this period, obviously in the IPL I will be coming out fresh.’

Kohli’s form over the past two years has been quite extraordinary – he averages over 50 in all three formats and already has 56 international centuries to his name.

The 29-year-old is an animated figure on the field, often provoking his opposition and inspiring his teammates with spontaneous reactions, but says he can cut a very different figure away from the spotlight.912573158.jpg
