Session One - Data. Mining, Inference, and Predictive Analytics for the Built Environment with Images, Text, and WiFi Data
Speaker: Rachelle Villano, Co-Founder, Hosta Labs: 3D Models of Living Spaces for Everyone & MIT Post Doc Reasearcher
What can WiFi data tell us about life at an urban scale? What can thousands of images tell us about the way people see and occupy buildings in real-time? What can we learn about the buildings that millions of people snap pictures of and text about over time? Crowdsourcing has triggered a dramatic shift in the traditional forms of producing content. The increasing number of people contributing to the Internet has created big data that has the potential to 1) enhance the traditional forms of spatial information; 2) yield further insights about a place or building from discovering relationships between the datasets. This workshop explores how industries related to the built environment can benefit from crowdsourced non-traditional datasets. You will learn how a complete software pipeline for data mining, analyzing, and visualizing large volumes of crowdsourced unstructured content about MIT and other locations from images, campus WiFi access points, and text using computer vision, machine learning, and statistical modeling techniques has been developed for exploring meaningful statistical patterns from the processed data.
Session Two - Entrepreneurship
Speaker: Jose Pacheco, CoDirector of Master of Engineering in Advanced Manufacturing and Design at MIT and Chair at MIT Enterprise Forum Mexico
Over the last decade the interest in innovation-based startups in Latin America, including Mexico, has been blossoming. More world-class entrepreneurs are emerging from vibrant tech communities and some universities. A critical goal for our communities is helping maintain continued momentum to nurture more scale-ups, organizations capable of exponential growth in Latin America. The successful future Latin America entrepreneurs will indeed be globally connected, locally focused and not phased by red tape.
In this talk, Jose will share lessons and reflections leading the MIT EF Mexico chapter, collaborating with other groups also supporting innovation-based entrepreneurs, combining methodologies from MIT and the local context of the various Mexican regions. Also, he will share some insights into hardware-based entrepreneurship and opportunities arising from the current economic environment.
Session Three - Cryptocurrency 101
Speaker: Virtual Growth & Cybercode Twins
Crypto 101 to present to new(er) users that may have some or no knowledge but show interest in learning about cryptocurrencies. To introduce people to the possibilities of micro transactions, decentralized ledgers, and/or DACs based on the group's interest and knowledge. Want to help people understand more about cryptocurrencies as it helps us learn more and seeing benefit and value that people may find and get from cryptocurrencies. Part of the problem is the foreignness of the overall concept and learning curves in use and technical understanding. Goal is to provide some basic knowledge to people to get them interested in exploring and learning about cryptocurrencies. This may include for example: What is cryptocurrency?, Bitcoin wallet, sending receiving cryptocurrency, exchanging cryptocurrency on an exchange. Believe we may provide a basic foundation of understanding of cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, bitshares, and others. To provide basic knowledge so that people may explore getting their own downloadable wallet, understand how to transfer value with cryptocurrency, and exchange between different cryptocurrencies and potentially into fiat currency.
Will be talking about cryptocurrency and of course Steem(it).
Welcome anyone to join or sponsor this and future talks to help support my new explored efforts in spreading cryptocurrency education and more into the community.
