My Culture is NOT your Goddamn Prom Dress
Just a few days ago I brought to your attention the mini-scandal of an American high-school girl wearing an identifiable Chinese dress to her prom.
The outcries flooded in immediately, spearheaded by this Chinese-American Twitter-creeper -
Mr. Lamb here led a Tweet storm, barraging this young girl with wikipedia quotes and allegations of appropriation.
My older post covers the practice of virtue signaling and how this 'outrage culture' of hashtags and pseudo-movements are undermining their own causes. Today, I want to follow up on this ridiculous piece of news because it shows the nature and eventual outcome of virtue signaling in modern society.
The Mob knows no allies
While Jeremy's initial tweet was met with viral support by hardcore leftists, marxist college students, and other Asian-Americans who have been previously slighted by aggressive questions like "where are you from?", he was almost immediately ousted for being a bigot himself, producing gems in recent years like this -
The aim to gain moral superiority over another is a futile ideological approach because eventually, someone will identify your moral faults which all humans have. There is even evidence to indict Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. of adultery. This reverse vengeance is even swifter in today's digital age.
Check out Lam's latest tweet, which seems to be an attempt for him to get away from the shitstorm that has ultimately been redirected at him -
A fraction of the support and the comments are gold -
RIP @jere_bare's Twitter. Where are all those thousands of people that supported his initial rant? Why only the haters left?
Like many other cases involving outcry and virtue-based action, the mob has abandoned Jeremy for the next dramatic event (likely the Kanye West 'scandal' on slavery). No one is left to defend the poor Lamb and he's stuck holding the bags of being a bigot himself.
This all comes back around to a clear reason why virtue signaling does not work without clear action and hands-on progress. The whole concept of signaling your virtue is to attack another's morality with your own. And if you're a foolhardy young brat like Jeremy Lam, it's likely that your morality is indefensible and the mob will leave you behind to be picked at by the critics.
Happy Sunday everyone!
Outrage is costly and in the end, doesn't change anyone's minds haha..
