The second epistle of Peter is probably an epistle written by this apostle to some churches located in Asia. In some issues, Peter's literary style resembles that of the apostle John, especially when Peter spoke about spiritual rebirth, and the importance of perceiving with the mind the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections.
This is why Paul began his two epistles by teaching about something that he himself understood with the first conversions of the pagans, as happened with the centurion Cornelius who accepted Jesus along with his entire family as recounted in the book of Acts (Acts 10:34-48), the Holy Spirit with his grace and mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) transformed believers by granting them his spiritual gifts, due to the faith in Jesus Christ and not by the obedience to the law, something that the apostle Peter did not forget and placed as a testimony in his first letter with these words: "According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" 1 Peter 1:3.
The christian concept of spiritual rebirth is a fundamental idea in the doctrine of the Kingdom of God, because it is with this spiritual change that true spiritual vision is born, as Jesus taught Nicodemus according to the Gospel of John. In more practical terms this vision is the contemplative life, the meditation focused on the divine attributes of God. And for Peter in his second epistle, this was a sign of a transforming faith which gave meaning to a new citizenship and a new perception, a faith united to the spiritual love, in Greek language called "Agape", and to the true knowledge of Christ. This is why Lord Jesus with wisdom taught the change that following him meant: "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God" Luke 9:62.
And Peter in his teaching warned that the Christian who did not accept this faith with its gifts became ´spiritually blind´: "For the person who lacks these qualities is blind and shortsighted, and has forgotten the cleansing that he has received from his past sins" 2 Peter 1:9. In resume, Peter's message in his second letter is an invitation to see the world with the eyes of Christ through the gratuitousness of faith.
