King Solomon in Proverbs 29 exposes us with a series of simple maxims and advice about his experience as a wise ruler of Israel: "If a king judges the poor with fairness, his throne will be established forever", Proverbs 29:14. Here King Solomon exposes us the need for the gift of advice to governing: listen (perceive with attention), meditate with intuition and inspiration, decide with discernment. Aristotle calls this spiritual gift exact justice because it has two characteristics, the advice precision and accuracy, the counsel seeks the truth.
The bible tells us about a famous case where King Solomon administers justice, the Case of the two prostitutes (1 Kings 3:16-28). The king manages to find the truth in a very difficult case and wins the admiration of all his people: "When all Israel heard the verdict of the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.", 1 King 3:28.
Good justice explains the King, affirms and guarantees happiness to the country and the people: "By justice a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down.", Proverbs 29:4.
But Solomon goes further, and establishes a spiritual principle, the spiritual guidance, the prophetic vision, it is necessary for the people to live according to the divine law: "Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.", Proverbs 29:18.
The purpose of prophecy is to correct, point out, guide, teach, and reveal what is hidden from God. The gift of counsel can be considered a form of prophecy, as well as the divination of dreams.
In the Bible, Joseph saves the Pharaoh's government and all the Egyptian people from famine by correctly interpreting the King's dreams (Genesis 41). In the Old Testament, the life of the people became very uncertain without the oracles of God; the old testament tells us of what happened to King Saul for not having divine assistance in his encounter with the witch of Endor: "When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled his heart. He inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets.
Saul then said to his attendants, ´Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her´", 1 Samuel 28:5-7.
