Hey Steemit!
Today I went on an adventure to the Ernst Fuchs Villa in Vienna, Austria. He is one of the artists who started the visionary art movement that brought along others like Alex Grey, Chris Dyer, Amanda Sage, and so many other spiritual artists.
Fuchs was the first artist to bring back the "Mischtechnik" which is a really old painting technique. It was completely forgotten until Fuchs uncovered this method by studying renaissance oil paintings and pouring through old texts. He brought it back from the depths and began to use it in his own practice and eventually taught it to his proteges (like Amanda Sage). The technique uses a unique mix of oil painting and egg tempera (made with an actual egg!) or casein (made with milk!) for the white highlights. This way of painting creates the most beautiful highlights with layers of white and glazes of color.
Unfortunately Fuchs has passed away recently, but he left us with a wonderful way to create oil paintings not to mention an entire museum of his paintings and sculptures.
The Fuch's Villa is a beautiful old building that Fuch's himself decorated inside and out with his art. Here is a picture of the outside of the villa:
There is also a tile and glass jewel encrusted fountain to the left of the villa:
(I want to note these first two pictures are not my own, I found them on google image search. However the rest will be my own.)
These are some close up pictures of his work:
The blue and red colors in the silk dress are so unexpected and fit so beautifully! He was truly a master of adding the most seemingly random colors and making them work.
Here is another example of surprisingly coherent color choices:
His brush strokes aren't even that controlled, but they are never messy. Somehow he makes the chaos fit together like pieces of a surreal puzzle.
This detailed hand is at most three inches long! He must have used single hair brushes to cram all of those exquisite wrinkles in so perfectly!
Here is a picture of me in front of "The Transfiguration of Jesus Upon Resurrection"
I hope you enjoyed looking at this incredible artwork and if you want to see more check out http://ernstfuchs-zentrum.com/html/galde1eng.html (that's a link to his gallery).
Also, if you guys are art lovers, art makers, history buffs, or have any interest at all give me a follow! I'll make sure to follow you back.
