At the MWC 2018, Vivo surprised everyone by announcing the Vivo APEX concept smartphone. Last month, the company launched the Vivo NEX smartphone in China. The Vivo NEX is the commercial device built based on the APEX’s concept design. A month after making its debut in China, the Vivo NEX is now officially launched in India. Unlike in China, the company is skipping the launch of Snapdragon 710-powered Vivo NEX A in India. Talking about the Snapdragon 845-powered Vivo NEX, it is the Vivo’s first smartphone in the recent years to come with a flagship processor in India.
The device will be competing with several other flagship devices along with OnePlus 6 and OPPO Find X. It comes with a true bezel-less display with no notch on the top or a chin at the bottom. The Vivo NEX sports a large 6.59-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ (2316 × 1080 pixels) resolution and 19.3:9 aspect ratio. It almost offers 91.2% screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood is the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. In India, the Vivo NEX will be coming with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
It runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo-based FunTouch OS 4.0 out of the box. In terms of optics, the Vivo NEX sports 12MP + 5MP dual camera setup with f/1.8 aperture, 4-axis OIS, and Sapphire glass lens. While there is no selfie camera on the front, the device comes with an 8MP elevating front camera that pop-ups from the top edge when required. Unlike the OPPO Find X, the Vivo NEX lacks the face unlock options. However, the device comes with AI scene recognition and portrait lighting effects. It can also record 4K resolution and 1080p slow motion videos.
As the front of the device is completely occupied by the display, there is no physical ear-piece on this device. It uses the sound casting technology which makes the whole display reflect the sound through vibrations. The Vivo NEX also comes equipped with CS43199 and SSM6322 dedicated Hi-Fi audio chips. While the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge, there is a dedicated AI button on the left edge to trigger Google Assistant. It is backed by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery and comes bundled with a 22.5W fast charging adapter.
