Reflections on Viz's Mission

in viz •  3 years ago

Hello everyone! There was too little impact from me at the end of the year, I will correct this. Here are insights that will shift/expand the inner boundaries of understanding Viz.

1. Most of my work and labor is invested in VIZ projects.World.

Yes, the VIZ.World initiative is a separate world of concepts and services/tools for the community. I prefer to read it as VIZ Worldwide - the idea is to expand VIZ beyond the boundaries of classic “blockchain” ecosystems.

What are the classic “blockchain” ecosystems, these are purely monetary ledgers. The owner A gave the owner B xxx.yyy of the network asset. How the “ledger” is built is not the point. It can be UTXO principles like in Bitcoin or the final balance in memory/system state.

2. I wrote at the time that I see no reason to move towards “blockchain” platforms, namely support for smart contracts.

This complicates the objects, forces them to divide resources into specific capacities for their “payment/rent” - CPU/RAM/NET. Stuffing application logic into smart contracts clogs everything at once. Is the app becoming popular? Hello to overwhelmed (overloaded) stresses.

In my “macro” understanding, Viz is ideal for social interaction. Reading the research of various crypto funds/analysts, you can stumble upon “social” tokens. Basically, all these studies are conducted in the context of ecosystems built on EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) projects.

This makes sense, since it is the largest ecosystem at the moment. I'm not exactly an opponent of EVM, but I'm definitely not a fan, as I understand the weaknesses of this approach.

Viz is originally built on Graphene technology. It’s a different core from EVM. And there are both strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths of Viz:

  • namespace (accounts)
  • speed of blocks
  • web orientation
  • lack of demands on CPU calculations (which translates into the possibility of light nodes with an emphasis on memory storage in a swap on an ssd, and not directly in RAM, since there is no requirement for super fast samples in logic)
  • mathematics of the foundation's economics, which can be applied to Layer 2 solutions
  • DAO

Weaknesses?

  • the absence of EVM closes the achievements of the largest ecosystem (you will have to write bridges to them yourself)
  • it’s more difficult in theory to find “developers” from the blockchain specialization, but easier from the web (!)
  • issues of technical debt and jambs have not been resolved (I wrote about the acceleration of finalizing the state in the comments to various posts). Viz is unique precisely due to its features. In theory, it’s possible to migrate to another core, but I don't see any practical sense in this.

3. What is the Viz mission?

I have written more than once that the code is the law, what kind of mission can the law have? Everyone who enters the Viz should “understand” the logic and mathematics of his work. After that, ask this question to yourself, what is so unique that Viz offers to solve? An axe - what is suitable for? Or saw? Or a stove?

Viz has built - in bases:

  • The asset is frozen for management.
  • Election of representatives to maintain infrastructure and manage the economy (delegates).
  • Election of representatives and initiatives for ecosystem development (committee).
  • Selection of worthy awards (subjective value, recycling and social interaction through the awards fund).

These tools are “enough” to build both individual communities and a single society with self-government. The mathematical formulas that I laid down more than 3 years ago were the basis for equal equity management. Frozen steak allows you to take part in the management. And then it depends on what you see in the tool.

4. What should I do?

There are different people who ask me this question. “What you can!” is the most obvious and correct answer, not everyone is born a creator. I'm serious (I foresee giggles of litrbooh). A lot of people are looking for leisure, bread and circuses, involvement of different levels.

Recently, the question was raised, “why is it so boring?”. “Here” is not a show for the purpose of entertaining. I have repeatedly drawn an analogy with a blacksmith, it is close to me. I forge swords and armor. It's not fun. But watching the construction of a Viz-City can be entertaining from month to month.

Somewhere something is happening, somewhere nothing, every month carries something new. I often know about the “activities” of others, who is doing what, but I have no right to talk about it. Everyone has their own type of interaction and work. And sometimes I don't know, so I'm surprised by some news along with others.

5. Tolya, you mentioned tokenization of likes, social impact, but where is ReaddleMe here?

It's a little different with him. I am convinced that ReaddleMe as a demo booth The Free Speech Project will draw attention to another aspect of Viz. And it's not about social impact. In the past I have shown the link: https://avsa.medium.com/its-time-for-social-media-interoperability-4cee38673fa3 .

This is where it is worth striving for and justifies storing data in blocks. As you know, it doesn't make sense to store everything in blocks. As soon as the networks reach their maximum, they impose limits - this is expressed in the transaction price.

The Internet is not an open field. If you build a house, it still has a maximum capacity. You can go beyond these limits by shifting the load. This is done by trusted Layer 2 networks. Do you trust them? It's all good. If you don't trust them, you raise them yourself.

Web 2 concept of crypto-media dead-end development. 1 or 2 services is not the point. This is centralization with content blocking. Only sharding for new spaces will allow scaling the load and capacity.

Therefore, it is important to come up with a protocol with sharding. And it's not about blockchain systems, but banal about media providers.

Where the ReaddleMe stops at the Viz bandwidth, a point will appear for the formation of Layer 2 hubs. My personal mission for Viz is a new measure of the assessment of the act.

  • Awarding.
  • Social gateways.
  • Expansion of coverage.

Therefore, at VIZ Worldwide, I deal specifically with the concepts of social gateways and related tools. To enter someone else's territory and offer to “receive” this new measure of assessment there is a difficult task. Vizonator should become a tool for Viz social token, as Metamask has become a “window” in smart contracts of EVM networks.

But I'm not a popularizer, but a blacksmith, so it's hard for me to switch from one to the other. Hands are burning everywhere. The question “what to do” is not worth it at all.

Yes, anything. You can improve anything. I see the logical solution in selling different projects to those who want to take them and develop them. Or if someone can “himself” take and form demand + trust — I will give way in the competition.

Who has been here for a long time and has seen on the Golos how “it happens”. People came with money, hired teams, worked out the “hypothesis” and went into the sunset, closing the entire project.

Therefore, here we are talking about the strong in spirit. To come to Yar's party and snatch a feather - you need impudence, self-confidence or courage. Or maybe all at once (a reference to the cycle of books Three from the Forest).

6. I am now doing any of my initiatives on behalf of the transcendent VIZ Worldwide

Even if the domain is taken away or blocked, it does not matter. The point is to make the Viz stronger. Infrastructural. By projects. By involvement.

Additions and explanations

So. Now about engagement. Sometimes they call me a “technocrat”. I don't consider myself that way. Personality tests from the same https://principlesyou.com/ award me the https://principlesyou.com/archetypes/commander role.

Involvement in modernity is hype-based. People run around and throw money into “fun” that fascinates or entertains them. No matter how unpleasant it is, it is worth admitting that hype and the involvement of the masses rule the ball.

I may not understand NFT or “metaverses” or Play 2 Earn, but they are there and attract attention. Involvement in the Viz may have a different approach. Gamification and achievements in telegram bot? A social gateway with ratings?

Beautiful pictures and graphs of “success” in the chat? I really don't want to do this, for me — conceptual issues are “more important”. For example, storing files in ReaddleMe. Now it's ipfs/sia skynet. There is no such thing as free. Patrons in siaskynet are running out, as I expected, so their file storage is now limited to 90 days.

My immediate priority is events in Readdle.me, then the settings for subscribing to accounts for certain hashtags, then the api/gateway for sending publications. I can't tear myself apart and do everything. Then viz hub and file storage are important. Messenger in ReaddleMe. After that, layer 2 solutions for storing posts in the viz hub.

Only these tasks will be enough for a year of development, but I can't rest on them either. There are too many wishlist, there are really a LOT OF THEM. It seems to me that if I draw a turbo cat for Viz every day— it will involve people dozens of times more than the main mission and key points.

Therefore, I need a response from like-minded people. I can complete a certain roadmap myself. I can do more if there is a development team under management. The question arises in the desire to share the risks for failure, the reward for success. Who has a desire to throw money/crypt into the monitor for the sake of certain ideas/concepts - write to me in PM.
