Not too long ago I rode over 200kms with mates! We took a train from Adelaide at 6am down south near Willunga and rode all the way to Cape Jervis back up to the city. We did a decent amount of elevation, as the route involved some pretty steep gravel climbs and rolling hills. It felt like we spent more time eating than riding as it was really hot that day and we were talking a lot while stuffing ourselves with baked beans, fanta and juice. I was scared of bonking so I made sure I drank plenty of water and stayed carbed up on vegan foods. I was suprised that I felt ok at the end since after the first 200km ride I did in Thailand I was completely shattered.
During the ride my chain slipped twice on two steep as climbs which was a bummer and there were some hectic cross winds riding back home which was scary as I thought I would fall off multiple times whilst holding onto my handlebars for dear life haha. In the end it was a nice ride despite us taking a while, the scenery was beautiful- had ever seen anything like it, and I enjoyed riding with Cristian, Charlie and Dan. The humidity in a place like Thailand itself would be enough to drain your energy.
Eating on the saddle is possibly the most important thing to keep fatigue at bay
