Shooting From My Kayak For A Client - Dock Photos And A Bit Of "How-To"

in vlog •  6 years ago

Today, I had time to finish up working on photos I shot last week for a contractor who re-built a few docks on Donner Lake. While shooting the photos from my kayak last week, I decided it might make for a cool DTube video so I took some quick footage to show you what I was up to. I talk a little bit about my photography techniques and settings while shooting from a kayak, and I show a few of the "keeper" photos I just sent to my client.

I'm curious, what do you do for money when you're not making STEEM?

Thank you for watching!

1st I thought it said Shooting DUCKS from your Kayak. I thought OMG no way!!!

But I was Happy to see I was wrong and it was actually some peaceful kayaking and some artistic photography work combined.

Some pretty good style there working those stabilizer abs using your kayak as a paddle board. I would be super concerned of falling in and getting the camera wet. Mind you as a past stunt actor, I often think of falling off things LOL.

Those Keeper photos looking really sweet at the end of the video.
I must admit I'm a little jealous of you days work, especially sitting in a hot room in a Vegas Desert and missing the lakes and water.

HAHAHA! Nice edit on the thumbnail Ha! No ducks, just a different kind of shooting. It's always is a bit nerve-racking to shoot while standing on the kayak but that's what business insurance is for right??? Ha! Glad you like the keeper photos, I hope the client does too... Sometimes my workdays are great indeed. Other times, it's all about editing photos or shooting real estate, not as fun. Sorry about the desert heat, hot here during the days but I think it got down to 44 outside last night. Fall is right around the corner...

Can't wait for some cooler weather our a trip to a snorkeling retreat... either will do 😃

And I thought he misspelled duck! lol

LOL that’s hilarious 😂

I guess I need to think about my titles a bit more, hahaha!

Hahahaha! Too funny.

I hate how the front end for steemit has this stupid design where you can easily unfollow and mute people argh

Yeah, I've done that before... Haha! Thanks for the resteem! I hope things are going great for you.

i would probably have few heart attacks just trying to get up with a camera in my hand :) did you ever drown your camera?

Haha! Yeah... Let's just say there is a reason I rarely shoot after having a couple beers these days. I had a tripod indecent years ago that ended with my Canon 5D MarkII getting quickly dunked in Lake Tahoe. The shutter release cable was plugged in so that area let water in. $700+ repair...

i had just once opportunity to photograph from a rowboat and i was not even rowing and was under stress :D on kayak i would probably shoot with gopro only :D

I understand, I used to get real nervous about it and always used a camera strap. But fortunately, the kayak is for two people, it's nice and wide so it's pretty stable. But yeah, I guess I wouldn't recommend that move unless you have insurance...

and insurance agency would not recommend that move ever :D

Hahaha! Nope.

I'm jealous of your job since I think it must be very cool to work by doing something you love especially on the lake with beautiful views.
I bet it is a lot and hard work, but at least you are doing what you love which is great.

It can be a pretty cool job sometimes. And yup, especially when it involves being out on the lake. Cheers!

Great video. Despite it being work it does look like fun. I like how the sun sparkles in your 2nd and last "keeper" photo. You would love coming up to Seattle and float around Lake Union. There is a Ivar's Salmon House that has a dock between Lake Union and Portage Bay that last time I ate outside, folks would pull up in there boats, tie off and then get fish and chips to go and take off again or hang out near the dock.
As for what I do for money, right now I'm in between jobs, my contract ended back in June and I'm been applying for places since. I got some photos I would like to post on Steemit, I just haven't done so yet.

Thank you @thaellock! Yeah, that job was a fun one. Today, I'm shooting another basic house...
Had to google image search Lake Union, looks like a nice one to shoot with tons of dock photo opportunities. And that Salmon House looks like a great place to stop for lunch!
I hope the job hunt goes well, and I hope you're enjoying a bit of time off too! Hey, and if you have some time off, you may as well post some photos on steemit... Haha!

Great vid.
I have thought several times of taking my old D300 with me on the kayak but was always worried of it receiving splash cuz most of the bodies of water in my area are saltwater. I might take it with me one day with a raincover. Although in my area, the ducks look better than the docks.

Haha! Let's see those duck photos! Yeah, the saltwater is definitely a different situation. Have fun if you make it out there with the camera!
