Very well said Steve! When I see Steemit nowadays, it has become a place where most of the folks are there for quick money! And the established ones are making money for posts that don't even have any content (wait, what! - was Steemnit not for good content?!).
I have seen posts like Good morning (figuratively!) earning 100s of dollars!!!
I am not against people earning money, and frankly my say doesn't even matter, since I am a complete newb! However, I would love to read some good content here. Or for that matter, see some good content getting what they deserve!
Hoping for the best! Take care my friend!
Upvoted you 100%, since my thoughts completely resonate with yours!

Heh, I've seen a similar post to "good morning" and first few comments were "great post, thank you for sharing. Resteemed"
I thought WTF dude, why do you resteem this worthless piece of craB

I think you should allow yourself to look at steem blockchain from different aspects, not just a social network rewarding good content.
One example that comes into my mind instantly is people in poor countries. Our globe does not consist of England alone where people have it easier to get by compared with many other countries. Imagine how a opportunity of making income and not having to worry about existential problems must mean to people. Imagine you would not be able to feed your family or pay your bills and suddenly steemit comes along. Would you say no to giving your child food because you stayed true to your principles, because it's more important that the community thought your post was not worth the upvote? In many countries, even here in Europe steem blockchain can be a live saver

I think Steemit offers great opportunities to poorer countries. All they need is an internet connection and a few dollars will go a long way for them. It's already happening in places like Nigeria, Venezuela and Aceh. There's just a danger that if they try to spam the system to make money then there will be a fight back. We saw some of that on Tsu. I appreciate that I have it relatively easy. Steemit is a form of anarchy and that can be abused. If it goes the wrong way then people will be put off and the value of Steemit will plummet. Then everyone loses.

I don't think spammers mining steem will outweigh the whales very fast, even with buying votes. Their drop in the ocean would take forever to cause an impact, especially vs serious investors doing the real damage whenever they can. Steem blockchain is business as much as it is everything it can be. Imo we should give it time and embrace growth. Ofc I want it to flourish into something majestic and wonderful instead of killing it but people are making money and given the chance to free themselves from governmental enslavement in so many areas. Let them and teach them.

People are creating new businesses here and selling votes is one of them. At Steemfest Ned would just say that it was 'interesting'. I'm encouraging growth by supporting those doing good things. Communities are forming around interests and location to do this too.

I agree with you about the bots. I think they are the biggest weakness in the system. They are so easily abused.
So when do we get to meet the chickens on an individual basis? Do they have names? What are their personalities?
I remember the appearance of daffodils when I was working on a farm in the UK. It held the promise of spring, but it just seemed to take forever for it to kick in.
I hope you get a good summer this year, like the one we are having now.

I may do a post about the chucks some time. I don't use the names they were given initially, but then I'm the one who has to look after them.

I don't really know what to think of the bots, if I'm completely honest. I'm still pretty new and learning as I go.
I have now used a couple of bots for 2 of my blog posts, which I deemed to be of enough quality to get them noticed a bit more.
Not sure if I will continue to do that in the future, if anyone would give their input on the matter, that might help me decide...

I'd say you should keep trying to build your audience. I see you went to Fosdem. There are plenty of open source fans here. I know @dickturpin has been saying there didn't seem to be the same audience for that sort of content here compared to somewhere like Google+. Maybe that can change

That's what I'm going to do. Besides, I think it's better anyway to keep investing into getting more Steem Power anyway. A higher value upvote on my own blog posts seems a lot better than using these bots.

Dear @steevc ,
I fully agree with you but... What if I tell you that also Bidding-Voting Bots can be a useful tool in order to benefit the whole community of, for instance, @runningproject ?
We know you are following closely and, frankly speaking, we would appreciate if you join us...
@runningproject has created @isotonic . Basically it is Bid-voting based bot but, instead of searching only the benefit of the ownner or SP delegators , it has been designed to help @runningproject initiative in an altruist way...
We would appreciate if you dedicate 5 minutes of your time to read the following informative post: https://steemit.com/steemit/@runningproject/isotonic-a-new-tool-for-empowering-the-runningproject-initiative-call-for-sp-delegators
Please, being you an experimented runner, we hope you can give your support, feedback and comments to @runningproject .
Thanks in advance!

I can appreciate that people run these bots for personal gain or to fund a project. I'd still rather see more manual voting that takes post quality into account. I know minnows need some help to get going, but I think bigger players should not take more than they get from what others give in votes. That way the inequality just grows quicker. I'll keep on supporting people, including some of those whose posts you resteem

Perfect @steevc !
I fully agree with you.
Just to be clear, @isotonic bot is just a tool more to help minnows in their way to grow up and get as well some visibility in the platform. The difference between @isotonic and the other bidding bots is that part of its earnings are dedicated to @runningproject which main aim is to promote the running community in steemit...
Anyway, if @runningproject or @isotonic help to the runners community to be found by people like you, which supports the community, I am really happy as well.
Thanks for your support!

I agree insofar that I saw a video without sound. It had gained $11.xx in SBD before the uploader noticed there was no sound. He then posted the video again, this time with sound, and gained the same $11,xx in a matter of minutes. I'd also like my work to progress on it's own merit, but with limited visibility, limited voting power amongst followers and whales giving themselves massive upvotes, I've decided that voting bots are fair game. YT didn't work any different, just look up devumi (.) com, everything is for sale; subs, views, likes, etc. Disgusting, but that's the way it is.

I don't think we just have to accept how things are now. Each of us has some power here and we can use it to influence the platform as we like. Of course it may not be much in some cases, but it's our choice.

I am not new in Steemit but I use voting bots. I use it not because it is profitable (most of them are not profitable at all) I use it because it helps to receive more SP. BTW. I never upvote my own comments. Thats like licking your own balls...
