How come the end of the world? There are nine scenarios.

Humanity can destroy chemical weapons or supervolcano lava. It sounds like the plot of a movie about a Hollywood catastrophe, but researchers say that everything is completely real.
The Global Challenges Foundation has released its annual report “The Risks of Global Disasters,” writes the American magazine Newsweek.

We list the 9 risks described in this document.

1. Nuclear war. According to experts, its probability is now higher than 10 years ago. It can not only lead to human casualties, urban deaths and radiation sickness, but also provoke a "mini-ice age".

2. Biological and chemical weapons. Its production is relatively cheap, and the modification of microbes today is easier than ever.

3. Catastrophic climate change. The authors of the report caution: the probability of an increase in temperature on the planet by 3 degrees Celsius or more is one to three. In this case, New York and other coastal cities will go under water, and more than a billion people living in the coasts will have to find new homes for themselves.4. Collapse of the ecological system. Pollution of the environment, migration of alien species across the world and destruction of natural habitats are all at risk for ecosystems. An irreversible imbalance is fraught with a shortage of fresh water, a decrease in soil quality and a decrease in biodiversity.

4. Pandemics. In this context, experts fear the emergence of new diseases, which our body is not ready to defend against, as well as the infection of densely populated cities with microbes and the existence of pathogens that are resistant to antibiotics.

5. Collision of the Earth with an asteroid. According to scientific data, potentially catastrophic collisions occur on average once every 120 thousand years. Experts fear that dust and debris released into the atmosphere may block the Sun for several months, leading to crop failure and the loss of ecosystems. Probably hundreds of millions of people will die from the consequences.

6. Supervolcano eruption. At least 400 cu. km of lava and other substances into the atmosphere. According to estimates of volcanologists, one such eruption occurs on average once every 17 thousand years. It is fraught with the death of people and animals and the destruction of agricultural infrastructure, as well as a global cooling.

7. Solar geo-engineering. “This may destabilize the climate locally and globally, as well as a number of elements of the global ecosystem,” the authors of the report write.

8. Artificial intelligence. The authors of the report are particularly concerned about the prospect that robots will surpass people in terms of intelligence, as well as the fact that development companies focus on functionality, and not on the ethics of their devices.
