MY VOCAB PRACTICE:

awaken: Sleeping Beauty awaken from your unnatural slumber with this solemn kiss.
amuse: I tried explaining but that didn't work. I tried telling a joke but she was still not amused. So I did a gig and kissed her on the cheek - the Hail Mary.
assure: The hostess had assured her guests nothing was the matter, when again an agonized scream rang from upstairs and discomfited her guests.
appoint: To rule well, don't appoint men who are either wiser than you or too competent.

By the same token, to rule well one needs useful officers to do your bidding.
