One question I have if you can help;

When you is singular what helping verb should be used? were or was

You(one person) were/was going on the road.

You takes "were." For both singular and plural 'you.'

I know the same but now a days i am watching people going with singular helping verb when they are talking about single person.

Because one cannot say " you is" "were" in case of past actions and "are" present action are used after "you".
