If You Are Good At Something, Never Do It For Free!!!!

in voiceshares •  7 years ago

Often in life we fail to realize our value or the value of things we do for people. Nothing in life comes for free, everything comes with a price tag and expiry date. People do not respect free things in life, the very intention behind this article is to convey this thought.

You may be very good at something, it may be something that you may do on daily basis but what ever it is you are good at just remember one thing, your talent or hardwork is not free, you have a dedicated effort behind it which makes your work worth something.

People expect things for free, be it your own friends or someone else, at no point in life you should do something you are good at for free. That only makes it a habit, ofcourse they are few people who hold special place in life. They never expect it for free.

Help fellow human beings, stay compassionate and hold high moral values, all the mentioned characteristics hold no alignment to putting a price tag on something you are good at. This is one of the most common practice we find amongst artists and creators. Everyone expects a art form to be rendered for them and they often assume it is free, very few realize the price of an art.

Do not kill your creation, demand what you deserve.

This was article out of experience as I am going through this phase in life, I am sure many relate to this situation and many others who haven't will soon realize.

Yep, so true.

What need to change in many artist's mind is the concept of money. Most of us see it as something dirty, the reason why things always goes wrong, why their art is not valuated... but actually money is just potential, and getting a service (music, art) which other people enjoys, that soooo worthy, that getting some money is whats fair from it :)

My dad was a businessman, and he would say, 'Work for free at the best company. Don't get paid a lot of money to work with the worst people.' And that's exactly how I see my career.

Haha, nice!!

I'm good at loving. Does it mean I shouldn't love for free?

excellent publication

I have consistently undervalued what my skill-sets have been worth. But since joining up with the STEEMIAN community, I am learning an other way. Thank you for the post.

You are right i wont depise your opinion. Not everyone really appreciate whats for free, yes! And they make you feel like nonsense when you act for free and the day you put a price tag on your worth they seek for, you turn enemy and they forgotten all your good deeds. So am sincerely sure its cool you never offer for free but the one impression am here to correct is that when you find that person that appreciates what you do for free dont hesitate to give it all out tho these persons are rare..thanks for the post🖒🖒

I think If you expert in a filed. spread your knowledge about that. it will provide you more and will able you to learn more. because "Sharing is Caring".

Again I come through a great post with a great message. Yes friend everything have it's particular value or price tag on it. I like your great idea of "don't kill your creations, demand what you deserve "if you done some work without any price ,people never remember it. But if you manage to put some price tag on it, it will become immortal in sometimes. Thanks for sharing such a valuable message to the people. It is very nice to hear from you, happy steeming friend.

Good advice. You got a new follower.

So much this. I used to go out of my way to do the stuff I do for people for nothing. NOTHING! I had a chip on my shoulder, something to prove. I'd dispense marketing advice for free, offer to help people with their websites, etc. I'd give car and motorcycle parts away and spend HOURS helping people get their vehicles back on the road. I have since learned my lesson. Now I do not touch a wrench or a keyboard unless there's a darn good chance I'm going to get paid for it!!!

I have to say I disagree. I took up hillwalking a couple of years ago, partly to improve my health and fitness. I joined walking groups on Meetup, but at the time I was too unfit to join many of the hillwalks being organised, so to cut a long story short, I began organising my own hillwalks, smaller hills that I was fit enough to climb.
After a while I decided to launch my own walking and hillwalking group on Meetup. I decided to keep it free, because I have no qualifications as a walk leader - though I've learned a lot over time and I think I'm pretty good at it now! I know this because people often tell me how often they love my walks, and when I asked for small donations to pay for the group fees I received more than enough.
I have another two organisers for my group, and none of us get paid. We do it because we love it. I have made fantastic friends through doing this, my fitness levels have rocketed and I've learned loads of new skills, like climbing and bouldering, because others have been keen to share their skills with me too, all free of charge.
I think if I started to charge for these walks people's expectations would rise and it wouldn't be so much fun.

It's a hard lesson to learn. I found that if I keep doing nice things for people for free, I get more requests again and again.

Soon I find myself doing everything for free, for a lot of people, and I run out of time to manage my own life.

Soon I have 10 people asking me to do free things, yet no one cares my wallet is empty, or that I have 100 things on my list that I need to do.

So then I mention I need help too. Want to watch 10 people turn around and speed walk away?

"Oh sorry @intelliguy, I'd help, but I can't because of this or that reason"

It gets funny.... if you finally observe what is happening.

I agree with you.. At some point, you shouldn't be giving what your good at away for free. Maybe sometimes, just not all the time.

Help each other is the value of life, our rich help the poor, the strong help the weak. Anywhere if we often help, surely we will be liked and have many friends. Thank you friends for your writing which is very useful for me. I want to be your friend next. So I can be like you. Thank you friend.

I totally disagree.
