The most Evil looking thing ever!
Imagine what ancient people thought these were. Having no understanding of the ground, or a mountain just randomly blowing open, spewing some shit that will burn anything it came into contact with. No wonder there were so many rituals, traditions, and even human sacrifices to them. Lol People were probably scared to death.
There is also other natural, or celestial events that probably killed shit loads of people, pretty tragically. Probably being the reason for many religions, myths, stories, etc. being generated.
A time when parts of the world were isolated from each other, and a simple "country sized" flood would have been perceived as a global scale event.
Also, I never realized that there was what looks like an electrical storm involved with volcanic eruptions. Were you aware of this? Its just gives it an even more sinister look. Lol

Not ro mention the months of "punishment" and hardship at follows a eruption. Ash clouds, Mudslides, famine. Some eruptions aren't jist country sized but have had major global impact aswell. Influencing weather patterns like Krakatoa. Scary stuff.
