It Starts With You

Do you ever feel like it’s all spiraling out of control? The news is full of horrors. People are killing each other and themselves. Humanity seems to be falling apart at the seams. We kill our young in the name of inconvenience. We can’t seem to take a joke. Many are afflicted with skin so thin that they lose their minds. People have placed their faith in evil men and women who have promised easy money, material possessions, and revenge for wrongs suffered by past generations.
We continue to send our sons and daughters off too wars without end. We promote empire and call it democracy. We imprison those who are not violent, and in doing so we ruin their lives. We face off against old foes, and renew old conflicts. We tolerate the intolerant in the name of political correctness. We work ourselves into an early grave and forget what is really important. We punish the innocent while we let evil walk free. We kill in the name of God.
Ask yourself, is this is all there is to life? We are born, we suffer through childhood, we get a job and pay the government not to throw us in a cage. Some will go off to foreign lands and kill other humans in the name of something that only exists in our minds and fills the pockets of war mongers and death merchants.
Eventually we grow old, suffer further from declining health, and finally are placed in a coffin or burned up in a nice cardboard box down at the crematorium. Of course not everyone will be so lucky. Nothing is guaranteed.
Depressing isn’t it? It doesn’t have to be this way.
Maybe we could stop stealing from each other. Stop stealing property, stop stealing spouses, children, labor, life.
Maybe we could start talking instead of fighting, hugging instead of shouting, holding hands instead of pushing each other away.
Maybe we could remember and respect the sacrifices made by our elders. Maybe we could remember the good times, and learn from the bad.
Maybe we could build up our fellow man instead of tearing them down. We could find ourselves looking past color, race, ethnicity, religion, and past grievances.
A fresh start, where we decide as a species to let go of it all. A fresh start were compassion and empathy reign instead of hatred and greed. Imagine if you will, a planet of peace. It has to begin with you.
