for yourself if you want to,
here's why
.......................................................................................................................
.
Consider three guys...call them
.
For purposes of this discussion assume that each one of them has $25,000 to invest in Crypto.
.
Tom inherited the love to tinker from his g'g'g'grand father...Tom Swift
so he uses his investment money to build a crypto-miner.
Tom made some money
Dick...well...so many Dick's and so few Richards...according to some, Dick was as Dick.
He invested his $25,000 in SteemPower...then voted for himself..
.
.
Dick made some money.
.
what about Harry?
.
Harry was a dreamer...his head was always in the clouds
.
.
Harry invested in cloud mining
.
.
Harry made some money.
.
What is the difference between them? Why is one good and the other bad?
.
I say no methods are "good" or "bad".
Ultimately, "good" and "bad" depend on the context. Within the context of Steemit, there is the concept of steemers evaluating content based on each individual's vague, general notion of what contributes to the community.
Of course, this is far from exact way to estimate value. You need to take into consideration votes to blow steem up whales asses, voting for friends, voting by bots etc. When all the votes are counted up, you get the numbers as posted on the site. Some chaff may be weeded out, but there is a lot of worthy content going hungry for lack of upvotes. Steemit is NOT an arbiter of "good" blog posts where the upvotes tell the story.
In simple terms, an upvote is too broad a method to evaluate content and it is administered so lackadasically that it lacks sufficient objectivity to make it worthy of being a measure of content quality. However it does serve to redistribute the reward pool in a manner that grows an increasing population of content contributors, at least for the time being.

and what exactly does that have to do with what I said?
I was evaluating the comparison of self voting, mining, and cloud mining... I didn't mention anything that you said.

Your questions were:
The differences between self-voting, mining and cloud mining are self-evident. To explain the differences here is akin to describing the differences between cats and dogs. A differentiation of their genetics while definitive, is unnecessary here because "differences" can be perceived on a much simpler level.
Perhaps, clarification is in order. What is the "bad" and what is the "good"? I assume you are talking about self-voting as "bad" in light of the recent HF-19 developments. However there are "bad" aspects to all three entities you are asking us to compare.
As to why "self-voting" is bad, I reiterate that whether something is good or bad depends on the context. There are no absolute measurements. While I don't perceive self-voting as "bad" under current Steemit regulations, there are those who do consider self-voting to be "bad" because the original intent of upvoting was for signaling and rewarding "good" content, not a push-button way to make money by self-voting IMHO. However, voting of any kind lacks merit for evaluating content on Steemit because of the reasons detailed in my previous comment.
Asking whether one is "good" and the other "bad" is a meaningless question because voting on Steemit is a failure from the standpoint of a method of evaluation of the quality of content, regardless of the reason. However, it does serve as a means of distributing the reward pool democratically.

None are bad all are good. However their is risk in cloud mining because you don't know for sure if they are a scam or will turn up scam eventually. Only say this to remind of Hashocean. Cloud mining also takes no effort to earn money though. So there is that. With steem power you would have to constantly be on steemit to earn money. Not saying that's a bad thing or anything. To buy 25k in mining rigs would be a full time job keeping up with it IMO. If i had 25k i would invest in all 3.

Oh ok got it. I heard of cryptocurrency mining and cloud mining but never dove into whether or not it was worth it compared to powering up and self-voting. Thanks for the reply.

in my not-so-humble-opinion( actually I'm a jerk..but you knew that)...Cloud Minings is a scam. What is the advantage for the folks who own the cloud mining 'service'?
If you don't want to be a hardware Geek and you don't want to invest USD..the Steemit is the place to be..
