华夏也称“夏”、“诸夏”，又称为“诸华”。是中国古代第一个朝代（夏朝）的自称[1] ，以区别与夏王朝敌对的四方部落（四夷）。如《左传》襄公十四年记载出自四岳之后的姜戎子驹支说：“我诸戎饮食衣服不与华同，贽币不通，语言不达。”[2] 后来华夏部落吸收了同边的巴蜀、荆楚、百越诸部落，汉民族开始形成，于是“华夏”这个称呼逐渐成为汉民族的别称。
