河狸(Castor fiber)，脊索动物门Chordata，脊椎动物亚门Vertebrata，哺乳纲Mammalia，啮齿目Rodentia，河狸科Castoridae，河狸属Castor，蒙古亚种C.f.birulai Serebrennikov，中文学名“河狸”，别称“海狸”。体型肥壮，头短而钝、眼小、耳小及颈短。门齿锋利，咬肌尤为发达，一棵直径40厘米的树只需2小时就能咬断。前肢短宽。无前蹼，后肢粗大，趾间具全蹼，并有搔痒趾。栖息在寒温带针叶林和针阔混交林林缘的河边，穴居。
