If you asked me to answer in one word what the purpose of life is, I would say creation. To leave a mark on reality saying, I was here. There are more words I can use to answer that question that are also close to my heart, and growth could be another answer. But in the end, I say that to create is to live. Thinking is not enough. Thought without action cannot mark this reality and it's trinity of thought, energy, and matter. Thought must be given form or it will disappear into the transient sea of the quantum.
What then can I create?
As I cannot currently freely sing or act... and my most developed being writing, I think I should start writing fiction.
What kind of fiction then?
Writing is generally best if you write based on your experience or knowledge, but most importantly, interest. So I'm thinking about writing realistic near-future -within a decade- fiction in a style similar to historical fiction. Other genres I'm interested include high fantasy and space opera. For both, I think I will start by developing a global time-line, and then have the protagonists live their lives through it, whether they make a noticeable mark or not. A key test to know if my work might be interesting is if I would be interested in playing a MMORPG set in that world. I'm curious about writing mystery and romance set in the contemporary real world, but I think this might actually be the more difficult challenge. Regardless of what I decide to write about I am enamored by concept of decision points resulting in non-linear branching storylines.
