the forgotten islands

As a surfer, I have always wanted to explore that isolated archipielago sitting in the middle of the atlantic, right in the path of northern atlantic swell highway. What i didn't imagine was the beauty I found...
In between king kong island and jurassic park, these islands enjoy mild temperature all year long and a vegetation as green as any tropical jungle... Probably the only islands of that kind found in Europe.

Wandering through the islands i had a feeling of discovering, that feeling that you are out of the mass tourism routes and have found something special, the kind of place that draws a smile on your face cause you realize that there are still unspoiled places in our overstressed mother earth...

So these are a few shots from my last trip to the "forgotten islands" of the atlantic :)

Arriving by sea is quit something, the island looks dry and rough, the shape and the atmosphere surrounding the islands are quite intimidating and mysterious, feels like arriving at king kong island

but once in the island, nature is lush, very green and inviting

misty mountains... it does rain a lot! how could it be that green without the amount of rain that goes with it...

and the surf was good :)

During my stay I found myself wondering how long it will take until they become the next canary islands... the next mass tourist destination, until i realize it will never happen, or at least it will take time... and that's thanks to the weather... it rains a lot! and the wind is wild, enough to crush your tent and send it hundreds of meters away in no time... believe me
And its people, they will never let it happen, they are very welcoming but they want to develop eco tourism so it seems quite unlikely that this becomes the next canary islands anytime soon.

Those waves look awesome! I see a few surfers in the last pic. Is the water cold enough for a wetsuit?

The surf is quite inconsistent but when the conditions align the surf is really good, water temp in summer is warm enough for boardshorts but for a long session a 3mil wetsuit is better

what is the name of the islands?

there are enough clues... :)
