I joke but it wouldn't actually be the first time the person doing the vetting was picked themselves. Dick Cheney was vetting Bush's vice presidential candidates and then Bush picked him.
And people may not remember her but Harriet Miers was doing Supreme Court nominee vetting for Bush as well and then was nominated. She eventually withdrew her nomination after an uproar about her lack of qualifications.
