Appreciation for wabi sabi is in my opinion a positive attribute in light of the rampant consumerism and materialism. I first learned of wabi sabi back in 93 when a friend explained the wear and tear of reading a beloved book take on a unique characteristic that can be appreciated. My saxophone for example is missing most of its shiny laquer from years and years of use before i even purchased it in 1994. The missing laquer does not impede the fine craftsmanship of a selmar and it plays wonderfully and is very reliable.

Still one day that sax of mine will be a pile of metal dust. In the more taoist sense of wabi sabi it is easy to appreciate and value the cup wether it is chipped or not it holds the liquid and continues to serve as a vessal. Drinking out of the palm of your hands work but is not the most effecient and it does make a mess. You see what i mean.
The trend towards always upgrading to the latest iPhone is not as prevelant as it use to be. I had my blackberry torch 9800 then 9810 for ten years 2007-2017. Near the end i was quite proud of battle scars and missing paint. The smartphone had been to hell and back a dozen times. Dropped more times than you would believe. (Blackberrys were rugged instruments...apple i believe had factored in the designed propensity for damage and engineered obsolescence)

Hope you enjoyed my freewrite and learned a thing or two about wabi sabi.
