Egypt goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shenawy has confirmed his absence from the 2018 World Cup after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament.
The 26-year-old was forced off in Thursday’s Egyptian Premier League tie against Al Ittihad.
And after undergoing medical examinations, El-Shennawy took to social media to reveal his injury woes ahead of the global showpiece.
“I want to thank God for everything, this is my fate and I accept it. This injury is a test from Allah, the anterior cruciate ligament injury was confirmed,” El-Shenawy tweeted.
“I will fly to Germany to finish the needed medical tests and know the extent of the injury.
“I want to thank God for everything and ask you to pray for me. Good luck to my club Zamalek and their amazing fans, the Egyptian national team in the World Cup and to my family and the people of Portsaid.”
