Battling with depression? Here’s the help you need.

At a particular point in time, everyone gets depressed. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating. But majority of people have laid claims to getting depressed at a particular point in time.

Depression isn’t something that should be taken lightly; it has been discovered to be one of the leading causes of the high rate of suicide.

If you are depressed or you constantly suffer from depression, you need to see a therapist – there is absolutely no shame in it. Your mental health is very important and should not be taken seriously.

But today, I will give you few points to help you through depression – if it is at its early stage.

Identify troubles but don’t dwell in them.

Many times, people who are depressed cannot really place their fingers on the cause or root of it. But many times, it is something that leads to depression; it could be a failed marriage, lack of finances, rape, the loss of a dear one and many more. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression and shift away from them. You can do this by changing location, talking to a friend and so on. Once you air out these thoughts and feelings, turn your attention to something positive. Paying attention to the positives will help liven up your spirit.

Recognize Your Self Destructive Thoughts.

When you are depressed, your mind will be incredibly sneaky and start telling you things that simply aren’t true. Yo will begin to hear voices telling you that you’re not good enough, you are worthless and useless, you shouldn’t be alive and so many more. It’s important to recognize these thoughts for what they are – lies, and then fight against them. You should know that these thoughts don’t define who you are. You’ve got potential and you’re very unique.

Express yourself.

Bottling up emotions can kill you inside. A lot of people have gotten damaged because they have refused to let other people know what they are passing through. Sometimes, you feel better by expressing yourself. As a matter of fact, most times! You can also express yourself through drawing, painting, writing and so on. Just mask sure you never bask in your depression.

Practice self-care.

Depression can make you want to wrap yourself up in bed all day without brushing your teeth or having your bath. Thus, you must make conscious effort to clean yourself up. Part of practicing self-care includes going out, finding a new hobby, visiting your friends, exercising, taking note of your diet and so on.

Seek help.

Like I said earlier, you need to seek professional help. Do not take depression for granted. It builds up slowly and gradually eats you up from inside. You need all the help you can get; from family, friends, medically and professionally. Visit the shrink today and talk to a therapist!!
